Today I ate a Rainbow Review and Giveaway!
I first heard about the concept of eating a rainbow a number of years ago, the concept stuck in my mind and was something I planned to include in our second book.
A few weeks ago I happened upon a site that took the idea of eating a rainbow and turned it into an absolutely wonderful product for children!!
I immediately was smitten, I contacted the owner, Kia, and asked her if we could do a swap...a couple of our Picture Me Cooking Books for a couple of her
Today I ate a Rainbow Kits. That way we could each try out the others product and report back!
I have 2 kids - A son, 8 (who was born a man, a serious man) and a daughter who recently turned 6 (who is as free spirited as the wind).
I introduced Today I Ate a Rainbow to them, they immediately "got it" and have been aggressively pursuing eating a rainbow every day since.
My daughter has taken full control, she reports out every few hours how many colors she has eaten, runs to the fridge to move her magnets every time she qualifies to she also tries to move her brothers as well...he then bolts over, moves it back, the again places it on the corresponding color. My daughter often reports out for my son as well who then attempts to regain control....it's wonderful fun...and guess what...they are eating more fruit, they are eating more vegetables and they are thinking about these choices all day - even while at school, doing what they can to accumulate needed colors....and I feel like a sneaky genius!! Thanks to Today I ate a Rainbow!
The simplicity is brilliant!
My daughter did in fact on more than one occasion try to include colors of Fruity Cheerios as earning her magnets...but I quickly squashed that lol!

ReplyDeleteMy kids are very hesitant to try most any vegetable. Fruits, they're pretty good with those but they turn their noses up at veggies (doesn't help that their daddy does the same--LOL!)

My daughter will try just about anything and LOVES veggies. My son on the other hand is the pickiest eater on the planet. It is always a battle getting him to eat fruits and vegetables.

My biggest challenge is getting my son to eat anything green!
ReplyDeleteMy oldest just started school so now I battle with both of mine to eat different veggies. Other kids at school have told him they are gross and he in turn passed it on to his 2 year old brother - oh the power of brainwashing. Maybe a rainbow chart would switch them back to the world of veggies.

Great book and great idea, my kids love taking the pictures, printing them out and putting them in. the whole family has been enjoying the reciped too.

My kids are not interested in trying new things, so we don't have a ton of variety in our eating habits. I would love to turn it into a game for them, I think they would enjoy it! Great idea!

My daughter eats fruits and veggies but she often fixates on one at a time so this could be useful to get her to broaden her horizons.

My youngest i have a hard time getting her to eat any sort of meat. My 4 year old son will only eat protiens and meats and no veggies and my 6 year old would only eat pasta with tomato meat sauce if i let her. We need more variety in our diets.

Wow! this book is exactly what I have been looking for. I have three little cooks at my house, all girls (6, 4, 2). I have scoured our library for a good, whole foods cookbook--and this is it!
